Some people studying the Bible for understanding come to passages that seem difficult. Some people who attack the Bible as being unsuitable for teaching because of errors like to use such difficult passages to deride the Word of God. Let’s look at one place that sometimes causes misunderstanding here.
Jeremiah 32:4 And Zedekiah, king of Judah, shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but delivering shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will speak with him mouth to mouth, and will see his eyes with his eyes. 5 And he shall lead Zedekiah into Babylon, and there he shall be until I visit him, says YAHWEH. Though you fight with the Chaldeans, you shall not succeed. (HRB)
Here, Jeremiah gives Zedekiah God’s Word that not only will Jerusalem fall to the Babylonians, but also, Zedekiah will see the king of Babylon with his own eyes and be led into Babylon.
Ezekiel 12:13 And I will spread My net on him, and he shall be taken in My snare. And I will bring him to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans. Yet he will not see it, and he shall die there. (HRB)
Jeremiah had noted that the king of Judah would see the king of Babylon with his own eyes and be taken to Babylon. Ezekiel acknowledges that Zedekiah would be taken to Babylon, but says that he will not see it. How could Zedekiah see the Babylonian king with his own eyes and be taken to Babylon, yet not see it?
Jeremiah 39:6 And the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes at Riblah. Also the king of Babylon slaughtered all the rulers of Judah. 7 And he blinded the eyes of Zedekiah and bound him in bronze fetters, to make him go to Babylon. (HRB)
So Zedekiah saw the king of Babylon and was carried to Babylon, but he never saw Babylon because the king of Babylon had blinded him.
I had just this morning seen a video at god-bless-you.org/?p=2714 (I don’t know how to post the video directly to B’net, just the link, but I shared it on my fb page) that discussed some objections to the King James version’s use of the term unicorn. Going back to a dictionary for the time the King James version was written the unicorn was the term used to refer to a rhinoceros. Also, modern biology families are named from the Latin terms which includes the unicorn for the type of rhino that has one horn and bi~ something or other for the type that has two horns. The video also went back a little to the Hebrew for those terms and discussed an interesting prophecy of Jacob concerning Ephraim and Manasseh. I found it interesting and some of you may find the video interesting at this link- god-bless-you.org/?p=2714.
Matthew 9:32 And as they were going out, behold, they brought to Him a dumb man having been possessed by a demon. 33 And the demon being cast out, the dumb one spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, Never was it seen this way in Israel.
34 But the Pharisees said, He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons. (HRB)
Matthew 10:25 It is enough for the disciple to become as his teacher, and the slave as his Master. If they called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household? 26 Therefore, you should not fear them, for nothing is covered which will not be uncovered; and hidden, which will not be made known. (HRB)
Jesus went through the land of Israel proclaiming God’s Word (He Himself being God’s Word), healing the sick, and casting out demons. The Jewish leaders said that it was by the power of God’s enemy that Jesus was casting out the demons. If Jesus was accused of being God’s enemy, then how much more could those who proclaim the message of God expect to be accused of being God’s enemies? Don’t expect to be accepted in this world, but seek to be accepted into God’s kingdom.
