“The most important thing in life is maintaining my peace. I came to this realization after seven years of being gravely ill. It was a long, tiresome journey. Yet many things were learned, especially during my healing process. I learned the importance of guarding my thoughts because it is indeed my power center. The power of words reminded me what the Bible affirmed, "Death and life is in the power of the tongue." My biggest monsters were overcoming the spirit of unforgiveness and the fear of dying. Nevertheless, reading the life of Stephen and Jesus concerning how they dealt with unforgiveness truly helped me. The fear of dying was removed from my mind because I was divinely taught that “dying” is just a word-there was nothing to fear. Everything must die in order for new life to begin. I truly believe after this life a wonderful life awaits us. A grain of corn must die in order to produce a new crop. When I fully understood this concept the fear of dying was completely annihilated. You owe it to yourself to guard your peace; it is one of your most valuable assets.” Spending time alone is very important to me. It increases my creativity and further helps me to examine my own thoughts. Throughout my journey I have learned what it is to love my neighbor as myself. When I keep my mind filled with loving thoughts the spirit of fear, doubt, and anxiety has no power over me. Yes indeed your mind is your power center. Fill your center with love. This is truly where the power is. The love vibration truly keeps me strong. Therefore I can state unequivocally my past is gone never to return. I am peaceful. I am successful. I am healthy. I am loving. In God I live & He is pleased with me. I am blessed now.
In everything that Sister Lovell does the message is the same. It is a message of empowerment, for students, for parents, for people looking to make a change in their lives. In times of uncertainty, we look for moorings, for anchors to keep us steady. These are times of uncertainty, and unfortunately the anchors we seem to be reaching for, more and more, are the ones that divide us, the ones that find their solidity in our growing fear and anxiety. On any given day, we encounter the possible realization of our fears. Our homes are not certain for us. Our physical wellbeing is not certain for us. Perhaps the reality is that it never was, but we are bombarded by that reality now in ways we never were before. The very nature of media, of a 24 hour news cycle, of constantly being plugged in, fosters an ever increasing angst filled world; and so often our answers, our defense against that anxiety, has been to entrench ourselves in dogmas that define themselves against something, constructed on negativity. Ideas that are religious in name, but devoid of a sustaining spirituality; Ideas meant to direct our political decisions, but fail to give us peace of mind. What is so often missing in the contemporary Christian conversation, the conversation that makes its way into the blogosphere and onto the airwaves, is the personal; that we each have a personal relationship with God. This seems simple enough but the implications are truly manifold. Minister Janet Lovell understands this better than most. In 2003 Janet Lovell fell gravely ill. Doctors could not help her anymore than they could understand what was wrong with her in the first place. She lacked the physical strength to leave the house, and often even to leave her bed. Despair at a time like this would be expected. However for Janet, a single mother raising two sons, her life, like so many single moms, was not just hers to lament. Where she faltered physically, she became stronger spiritually. Where she found the most difficulty in functioning in the world around her, she turned inward, and found the transformative resolve to heal herself. Her faith in the simple idea that through Him, all things are possible, coupled with an almost monastic devotion to understanding the word of God, succeeded where conventional medicine could not. It was a revelation of sorts. In the beginning there was the word. This cosmic starting point, this first creative act in Genesis is as much prologue, as it is the offering of profound truth; That words have power; that understood as through Christian teaching, we are the manifestation of divine thought made real through words; that in turn, we made in his image, have transformative power in the actualization of our thoughts, in the pronouncement of our words.
