Status:Am now fully recovered from my stroke. having a few vision problems, going to specialist on Mon.,the 16th. going to my First PowWow ever this Sat. am very excited!
About Me:
I"ve been involved with "The Land",Nature,Herbs, and Wildlife since a young child.I am part NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN,SEMINOLE,ON MY FATHER'S SIDE,CHEROKEE AND COMMANCHE ON MY MOTHER'S SIDE.My parents and their parents before them ,never lived on a Reservation. They were amoung the fortunate few who escaped the "Great Roundup" of the American Indians by the White Government between 1830 & the 1850's.My father's people withdrew deep into the swamps of Lousiana and Florida. My Mother's people took refuge in the inaccesible and unhospitable Appalachian Mountains.
They entered the 20'th century as farmers and ranchers, and by all appearances, were much like their White neighbors. But,they were different in many ways. Most retained their language(s),dances, stories, and Medicine.Their Medicine Men and/or Women continued to write down,(YES,Write--The Cherokee Nation and the Seminole had their own alphabet),the ancient formulas for Herbal Cures, and would pass this secret knowledge on to an "Apprentice",whom was chosen every 10 yrs. or so.
Often this knowledge was passed on Father to Son or Mother to Daughter. As it so happens, in my case,my Father passed his knowledge and wisdom in this area on to me. He also instilled in me a deep love and respect of "The Earth" and all things in the "Natural Realm",including "The Animal World".
Although my Father was proud to pass this wisdom,(Herbs,Nature, etc.), to me, he was fearful of talking about his Native American bloodline. In view of the SHAMEFUL way that the Native American Indian has been treated in our country(and in many ways, still are),I can understand his reluctance to announce his Heritage. He and my Mother just wanted to "fit in", and not have "attention" brought to (or) on them. So very little of the rest of my "Native" heritage was taught to me. If my Father knew it,he refused to talk about it. Most of what I know about the Native American Indian,I learned on my own through lots of research.
I started out in the Healing Arts by practicing on my Animal Friends.I am Very Proud of my Native American blood, and try to always bring Honor to that side of me. I was brought up on a small Family farm, where I was taught many wonderful things concerning the "Spirit of the Earth", and Natural Healing by my Father.
My Mother taught me "Handed-Down Folk Remedies",such as the uses for baking soda, and using vinegar as a household cleaner, and to disinfect a wound.
I am a TRADITIONALLY TRAINED (NATIVE AMERICAN ) HERBALIST, NATURAL HEALTH CARE CONSULTANT, CERTIFIED MENTAL HEALTH CARE SPECIALIST (trained by the United States Air Force), and TRAINED MASSEUSE . In more common terms you could simply say I am a Healer. I also help and heal animals.I've been labeled as crazy, non-conformist, a rebel, a hippie, and on occasion, a trouble-maker. I guess I'm all those things. I just don't like all those rules and regulations, Unless they are my own ,Ha, Ha! I'm also an Empath. That means I feel what you feel. I also see Spirits, and on occasions, Demons, which can be pretty scary at times. And yes, those things really do exist. Just because you've never seen one, doesn't mean they are not there. Some of my Spirit Animals are: Wolf, Owl, Hawk, Horse, Dog, and Bear. What is a Spirit Animal,? Well, write to me and I'll tell you. Oh, one more thing, for those of you who don't have a clue where Conroe is, it's about 40 miles north of Houston, Tx. Used to be a tiny country town, but it is growing like crazy now, cause all the folks from Houston are trying to get their families out of the big, bad city. Just in recent months,I have started to study Shamanic Principles. What is a Shaman you ask? A Shaman is a releaser of Mental and Physical blocks, with emphasis on self-esteem, self-examination, and inner awareness. A Shaman is a Peace maker, Teacher, Communicator- teaching you to develop your own inner awareness.
I was already on this Path, before I ever started to learn it Formally. Anyone who practices Natural Medicine or Natural Healing,(In my own opinion), is on this Path, and may not even know it. But, let me make something quite clear. Just because I'm studying Shamanic Principles, does not make me a Shaman.(Also, let me say, that there are Tribes that do not recognize or use the word Shaman). To be a Shaman, takes a certain calling, that you will realize through certain dreams or experiences in life(usually quite traumatic).Being a "Herbalist/Healer",and being a "Shaman" are Not necessarily the same thing.
So that is My History, and how I came to be Who and What I am.Oh,I could go on and on about some of the trauma and hardships I've endured in my life, but I won't, because most of that, I brought upon myself through my own stubborness, stupidity, and self-pity(or low self-esteem).It took me a long time to love myself and accept ME for ME.It took me a long time to put away my Self-destructive habits and life-style.But I finally did,and YOU CAN TOO.

Like you, my ancestors (Oceti Sakowin Sisseton Isanti (Dakota Sioux))(on my Father's side) in the 1800's were able to escape The Terrorists, also as farmers in The Wisconsin Territories. After I retired from Active Duty T trained under a Huichol (Mayan) Shaman and continued my studies with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. I also have received training from the Tsalagi (Cherokee) and Oceti Sakowin Sisseton Isanti. If you wish to learn more about me please visit www.wamduskasapa.com
