You are right that it (a spiritual journey) does not have to begin in a negative manner but for most people it does. Till a person hits a wall -- they will not think of changing. They will think that they are right and everyone else is wrong.
Yes -- most of us here are already on a spiritual path and have already confronted the need for change. We have confronted the need for self-love and discipline. We have put ourselves into the role of spiritual guides and leaders.
When a new person is to begin this journey -- a realistic view is needed. To release anger, hate, self pride, and attachments is not easy for most to do. To face our fears, our demons so to speak, and to be able to deal with the world in a loving way takes time and great effort.
Unfortunately many people think all that is needed is to repeat a few positive affirmations or say 'I believe'. This will make them feel good for awhile, but when confronted with a new problem they will be lost and not know how to deal with the situation.
Disillusionment follows for they have never taken the time to look deep within to see who and what they truly are. We cannot say -- just go and do it to them.
