I grew up in Appalachian Kentucky; the view from my bedroom window was the WV mountains just across the river. Dad's family has lived in that region for over 200 years (after traveling around VA, NC, and TN for another century or so)...except the ones that were already there to greet them, who had lived there much longer. Some Melungeon in the family to add a bit of spice. ;-) 

Mom is from the Azores Islands of Portugal (with family stops in Belgium and Morocco during the Inquisitions), most of her family currently living in the Boston area now. They are Sephardim, but very few are still Jewish. 

Married for over 9yrs to a Texan I met on the Internet - after a 3yr courtship - I now reside in Austin, Tx with hubby and our purr babies.
