About Me
I joined because this is a non-threatening link to other nonbelievers which is better at this point than coming out as a nonbeliever to my family, friends and neighbors. Believers just don't understand nonbelievers. I have recently read Parenting Beyond Belief and have been inspired to join nonbeliever groups and have finally let my 12 year old know she doesn't have to believe in god as I have much doubt. My wife is a believer so I need support elsewhere. I've felt this way since at least 12 yrs of age. Being brought up in a very big strict Catholic family has been difficult. I understand what it has felt like for other minorities who have been abused for race, religion, or belief. I understand that nonbelievers are more disliked than almost every minority probably very close to being classified on the same level with criminals. We just simply look at the world with a naturalistic, realistic point of view. We also see Darwin's Theory of Evolution as not so much "theory", but more "the answer" that we've been looking for for thousands of years. Since the study of evolution is so young, it will take a while for reality to take hold of society's accepting it. Scientific evidence can be held in your hand whereas being told you must believe is just too weak for nonbelievers. The reward of an invisible heaven or threat of an invisible hell just isn't strong enough. I want all people to believe what they feel comfortable with as long as it hurts no one. If we can also respect each other's belief, we'll find peace on small scale relations as well as large.

I wouldn't say that I am a non-believer in a god any more than I am a non-believer in leprechauns or mermaids. If I had to classify my feelings I would consider myself a "Non-Theist." The questionable existence of a personal god is as irrelevant as the unlikely existence of unicorns.
