Hi, I’m, Dr. Steven Hodes M.D. and  I am happy to part of the Beliefnet.com community!

I am a traditionally trained physician with a metaphysical point of view.  In fact, I am author of the new book, Meta-Physician on Call for Better Health:Metaphysics and Medicine for Mind, Body, and Spirit (Praeger Publishers, November 30, 2007), which explores the connection between spirituality and medicine and offers many ways metaphysics can help facilitate healing.

My approach to well-being encompasses both the scientific and spiritual causes for pain, illness, and disease. I like to think of myself as a physician who helps bridge the gap between traditional medicine and holistic healing, and who shines a light on ways non-medical issues -- such as stress and emotional blockages -- contribute to illness. 

 Although I have a great regard and love for traditional medicine, I believe strongly in the connection between body, mind, and spirit. I’ve devoted myself to teaching, lecturing, writing, and sharing the insights I’ve acquired on this topic.

Even though I bring wisdom and experience gathered in almost 30 years in private practice to my work as a “Meta-Physician,” I still see myself as someone who is “on the journey.” I believe I have been called to share what I learn, as I go along. Metaphysics and Extraordinary Spiritual Experiences are tools we can use to help us heal – and learn to heal ourselves.

 I do not practice “alternative medicine”, but I do take a “holistic” approach. I consider this “Making Metaphysical Rounds.” I like to utilize all that science has to offer in terms of testing, treatments, and procedures and also take into consideration the ways in which emotional and spiritual imbalances in one’s life can lead to dis-ease in the body.  It is not unusual for me to help my patients with 1) A medical prescription, 2) a holistic therapy  3) Exercises to help with emotional upsets and 4) and the name of a good medium!

I am a board certified physician with a medical practice in Edison and Old Bridge, New Jersey. I received my medical degree from The Albert Einstein College of Medicine and also have a degree in Religious Studiesfrom Franklin and Marshall College.
