About Me
I've been hard-pressed to come up with a succinct statement about my faith, but here's what I have so far:
1) There is a being who is all-knowing and all-loving, and without whom nothing would be real (or, rather, everything would be unreal).
2) This being at least listens to prayers, and may or may not affect causality and the laws of nature to answer them.
3) This being will one day gather all sentient beings unto his/her self
4) To this end, this being has (probably) appeared in myriad forms to myriad prophets in myriad cultures. Alternatively, myriad prophets and cultures have apprehended this being in myriad ways.
5) "God is apprehended by imagination, intuition, reason, touch, opinion, sense, and name" (thank you, Godspell!), and all are valid ways of approaching the Divine. Some may lead to a dead end more than others, but we are free and encouraged to explore, given points (3) and (4).
6) As a product of my own Western American culture, I tend to contextualize this being in the form of Joshua ben Joseph, also known as the Christ, although I have an affinity for Ganesh and my devotion to Mary occasionally borders on Goddess-worshup.
In a nutshell, I am a heretical universalist idolator Jesus person ex-Catholic wanna-be Eastern mystic with a big imagination and a huge longing for God.

He should have known better because, early in his learnings under his brother Mahmoud, he had discovered that long human words (the longer the better) were easy, unmistakable, and rarely changed their meanings, but short words were slippery, unpredictable changing their meanings without any pattern. Or so he seemed to grok. Short human words were never like a short Martian word -- such as grok which forever meant exactly the same thing. Short human words were like trying to lift water with a knife. And this had been a very short word. [Robert Heinlein, Valentine Michael Smith's musings on the word God in Stranger in a Strange Land]
