About Me
Hi there, I am Courtney. This is my second time at Beliefnet. Before I came here to search and to find some friends, suffice to say that didn't happen. I don't have any friends who come here so I guess I am a new comer. I just really want to meet with other people, to have people to talk with about things that I won't or can't discuss with anyone that I know. I have a dog named Lucky that is 10 years old, he's a rescue he a peke-chihuhua cross that's 9 pounds. I go to the gym 3 to 4 days a week. I am aWeight Watcher. I volunteer for a nonprofit org for families with adults with developmental disabilties and I also volunteer at a middle school in a Life Skills classroom that I have been with since February 2004. I love to read, but I am picky about my choice of books. I like what some people consider weird things, like ghosts and tarot are among those interests. I also belong to a camera club which I joined in February 2008 after getting a digital camera for Xmas last year, my interest has grown and I am getting better. My friend John got me involved with that. About six months ago I was unofficially diagnosed with Asperger's which is on the Autism Spectrum on the high end, but I stress this: I am not autistic. Other than that I am just like everyone else, though I do have a learning disabilty in math and very mild cerebal palsy which is the reason I can't work long days because of my legs . When I was almost 11 I had my left hip pinned. The pin was in too long. It was removed the summer of my senior of high school. As a result my left leg is shorter than my right. A few years ago I got a lift insert for my left sneaker, so just like older people with arthritis my hip bothers me whenever it is cold and wet. On the Asperger's: It was a relief to finally have a name for what I had been experiencing my whole life it explained how awkward I felt around other people. Asperger's is a social disabily. What comes naturally to people not on the spectrum I have to learn, like affection and giving eye contact, learning boundaries and getting comfortable in my own skin. Having Asperger's is like being in a foreign country where you don't know the social and cultural norms and behaviors, in your own country. It's a lot like being a cultural anthropologist. There are professors and executives with it. Asperger's is an invisible disabilty where sometimes you have either hyper or hypo senstivties with the 5 senses, for me it's sounds and some smells. I have gone through all of my life up until 6 months ago not knowing what made me different from everybody else. I am getting comfortable with that aspect of who I am which is why I am able to be so open about it here. Before I would have never been this open about having a disabilty so disclosing this part of my life is a big deal to me.This really is me writing, I love to write, especially poetry and fiction. I am smart, intelligent and I stress again I am just like everyone else.
I have been struggling with my weight for awhile, last month was horrible, however this month has started out good, I lost nearly four pounds of the 30 I've put back on since last November. I have revised describing myself as of right now. So that's about it about me.
