More About Me
My Tagline:
Ty Clement, author of the Spring 2009 spiritual release Being Ourself
My Interests:
Prayer, Meditation, Worship, God, Angels, Afterlife, Interfaith issues, Charity, History, Movies, Music, Books, Crafts, Current events, Politics, Art, Environment, Holistic living, Yoga, Health, Cooking, Caregiving, Family, Marriage, Parenting, Dreams, Astrology, Painting, Hiking, Nature, Indigenous Culture.
My Favorite Books, Authors, Musicians, Movies, Preachers, TV shows, etc:
Way too many of all of these categories to list (though you can visit my myspace page if you really want to know), but I did cherish Jiddu Krishnamurti 's books when I was in high school (late eighties), and more recently I have been impressed with Malidoma Patrice Some and his books such as The Healing Wisdom of Africa and Of Water and the Spirit. Musicians whose focus is on improvisation also fuel my musical passion such as Jack Dejohnette, Pat Metheny, Jerry Garcia, Richard Bona, and Brian Blade.
Who Inspires Me:
People working for social justice, people living to create (artists of all kinds) even when it is a struggle to do so in our commercial/corporate culture. Last, but definitely not least, I am blissfully and encouragingly inspired by my amazing wife, Sara (emerging butterfly here on beliefnet) and our five creative and funny kids.
My favorite spiritual activities:
Being in nature, walking, freely moving, singing, etc.--in my upcoming book Being Ourself I refer to this as exalting in Ourself or lightening up in Ourself. Also I am a musician and I love playing drums in my band the Voodoo Horseshoes, and improvising on guitar, bass, and saxophone. To me music is one of the most satisfying ways to both express the wordless shapes, patterns, and feelings of soul, and to become conscious of where thought ends and pure reality begins (while moving all four limbs at once!)
Who I'm praying for:
Everybody and Everything, in other words, Ourself.
What is your current spiritual mood?:
Grateful
About Me
Hi! The mission of this website really appeals to me. I am not affiliated with any specific religion or set of beliefs, but I do appreciate the threads of truth and beauty running through all. I have joined this community because it is so open and diverse, and has the intention of supporting everybody's unique spiritual interests and needs. The fundamental understanding that guides and shapes my life is the fact that reality as an absolute whole is one thing interacting with itself. The only real peace and freedom I know is the peace and freedom that is innate in the recognition that my primary identity is reality itself-- both the seen and unseen, in all its vastness and mysteriousness. Rather than getting hung up on whether or not "I am being selfless," "I am free from ego," or "I am always mindful and in the present" (all of which seem like strange ego trips in themselves), I focus on welcoming and loving all aspects of this bizarre human experience as fully as I can while artfully shaping the little piece of the whole that is my responsibility with as much integrity and passion as I can find. Since I recognize fundamentally that we are all different aspects of the same common identity, which I call Ourself for the sake of simplicity and inclusiveness, I don't find much meaning in trying to climb somebody else's construct of a spiritual ladder that ranks people in terms of how "mindful" they are, or how "aware" of reality they are. I'm too busy expressing myself as part of Ourself to get stuck in a ranking system-- if reality is one whole interacting with itself, then of what value is any kind of ranking system or spiritual authority? I enjoy being ordinary, and sharing life with the rich community of both humanity and the natural world. If you have similar feelings about life, I'd love to hear from you here on beliefnet in the Being Ourself group, or on the website for my upcoming book Being Ourself at www.beingourself.com or on my blog entitled Beyond Mindfulness, Beyond Oneness at http://beingourself.blogspot.com
Thanks for reading and best wishes!
