About Me
After living in NYC for 35 years, I answered a calling and moved to New Orleans on an act of faith. I was a clothing designer for more than 20 years, traveled to many countries for busines. My career was abruptly haulted after an auto accident in 1996 and caused me to rethink my future. I went back to college at 55 to become proficient on the computer; earned an AAS Degree and became a Business Development Specialist. I did volunteer work for Dare 2 Dream, a non-profit organization run by students at TCI College and realized how much I enjoyed working in the non-profit sector.
As Katrina Project Coordinator for Dare 2 Dream, I did major fundraising for the New Orleans Mission and found myself accepting their offer to be the Director of Transitional Housing at the Women's Center of the New Orleans Mission. With all the accomplishments I attained throughout my career as a Design Director, nothing seemed to equal the fulfillment I received mentoring homeless Katrina victims. Because of my business background, I received extensive training for their NOVA GED Program, shifted focus from homeless women to recovering addicts in the Christian Decipleship program, and had the pleasure to instruct their GED classes.
I left the mission in November 2007 to focus on a major grant proposal that can bring affordable housing, free health care, free transportation, free GED classes, and employment opportunites to many displaced Katrina victims. I really believe this is God's program and His blessing on the people who lost so much during Katrina and Rita Hurricains; I'm merely the vessel He blessed to write His vision and bring it to life. I'm hoping to reach out to people who may share my heartfelt desire to change the lives of these wonderful people and give them hope, affordable homes, education, and ultimately sustainability and a much better quality of life
