About Me
Hello, My name is Bob. I am a musician (violinist mainly) I have been on a very active spiritual journey for 9 yrs. As a child, I chose to join a Methodist church, attending regularly, sang in the choir and embraced God as much as a child could. It was always a positive experience. I switched to an EUB church within walking distance from home at age 12- another positive experience becoming an even more involved kid, singing in the choir, attending the Youth Fellowship mtgs., Sunday evening activities, loving all the adults and other kids. I was also in Boy Scouts and DeMolay (at age 14). DeMolay is a Masonic fostered, all male group based on great spiritual values and principles. Life seemed wonderful and it was! At age 17, wishing to be more a part of the "cool" group, I experimented with alchohol. Within 4 months time, I dropped all these spiritual based activities and started my path into darkness very gradually and by age 20, refuted the existence of a God. Drink and substance gradually increased its grip on me though I did return to spirituality via Buddhism at age 35, but after 5 yrs. of practice, by deepening hangovers and alchohol abuse made chanting and maintaining a live altar near impossible (you really need some wherewithal to chant properly). While I abused the Buddhist beliefs to justify my drinking, the downward spiral sped up into more darkness and at age 47, found myself isolated with windows continually darkened, obsessed with drinking & pot, coming very close to losing my musical ability, let alone social contacts and health problems. God did intervene with a firm grip on my collar and led me through a serious, but unsuccessful suicide attempt, a detox, and quickly into the rooms of AA. I picked back up my active spirituality, and all that I almost lost very quickly. My recovery has been on a constant climb upward (and outward) for 9 yrs. I have joined this website as another step in widening my spiritual journey. Alignment with the will of God is my daily quest- I pray, I read, I help others, and I have a great life with the same challenges as everyone else, but with God, I walk through it all with constant faith and near constant serenity. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. I love life!
