About Me
I am a 58 year old man, who was born and raised Jewish. Currently, I belong to, and practice, two faiths--Progressive Christianity and Mahayana Buddhism. To me, there is no conflict between the two; in fact, the teachings of Gautama Buddha and Jesus Christ enhance and compliment each other.
"Tashi Namgyal" is my dharma name, given to me by Nepalese lama Choje Tulku Rinpoche, of the Nyingma lineage, when I took the Three Refuge vows during a dharma seminar he gave here in western Colorado.
I'm very interested in all three approaches to the Buddha dharma--Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. I have studied Buddhism, and related religious philosophies, since 1970.
As a baptized Christian, I'm a member of the very open-minded United Church of Christ, a progressive Protestant denomination.
I've joined the Beliefnet community to share ideas and experiences with other Buddhists, Progressive Christians, and spiritual seekers.
I've been a professional broadcast and print journalist since 1977.
I'm married, with one stepdaughter and one grandchild.
