About Me
Hi there. I'm Debbie Caldwell, Beliefnet's managing editor. Thanks for stopping by.We're thrilled to unveil Beliefnet's new and improved community, and we hope you'll come back and hang out with us again.
My job here is to lead a group of spectacularly creative and dedicated editors who bring you the stories, slide shows, interviews, quizzes, polls, video, and discussions on Beliefnet. We love the opportunity to interact with you as we create the website each day. Now we'll be able to visit with you even more.
A bit about me: I've been with Beliefnet since 1999, when the site first launched. After all these years, I'm pretty sure I've edited essays and quizzes and interviews in every section of Beliefnet. For a while, I also reported and wrote, particularly about religion and politics.
Before coming to Beliefnet, I was a senior writer at the Dallas Morning News; and before that, I was a staff writer at the Trenton Times. I've covered some fascinating stories in my reporting career: a minister with a 7-foot python named "Satan;" a group of missionaries in Guatemala; the Nation of Islam in New Jersey; and an assortment of rodeo preachers and child prophets in Texas. I've interviewed President Bush, the late Jerry Falwell, Desmond Tutu, Goldie Hawn, and lots of other spiritual, and frankly unspiritual, people.
These days I live in the suburbs and spend a lot of time near baseball fields with my two sons, both of them left-handed Little League pitchers.
The role of faith and spirituality in people's every day lives--and on the world stage--continues to amaze me. I look forward to hearing more about what amazes, inspires, enrages, and delights you.
