About Me
OK, this is my second attempt at creating a profile. I had created one as "questioner", but then for some reason the site wouldn't let me log in. I tried the "forgot password" option(even though I had not forgotten my password.) and the site said that my e-mail address was not recognized. So I created a new profile, using the same e-mail address, and it's basically the same profile, accept now instead of "questioner" my name is "questioner?" which I somewhat like better anyhow.
I have joined this community because I'm hoping to learn more about Buddhism. I was raised a Christian. As a child I had severe obsessive compulsive disorder, which was exacerbated by my perception of sin and hell. At the age of 15, after extensive studying I rejected my Christian faith. By the age of 16 I took a strong interest in Buddhism, but soon became cynical toward spirtuality and came to consider myself an Atheist.
Then, at the age of 21 after years of relief from anxiety symptoms, my obsessive compulsive disorder began to once again affect me severely.
I began to remember all the research into buddhism and meditation, that I'd done as a teenager, and it comforted me.
I'm confident that the four noble truths are logical and that the noble eightfold path is the correct way to end suffering. Reinitiating my interest in Buddhism and meditation has helped ease my anxiety.
Though I have a strong skeptical, perhaps even, cynical streek I seek to keep an open mind and learn more about Buddhist philosophy, as well about Buddhist tradition.I am presently reading the lotus sutra, and occassionally attend services and sutra study at my local Rissho Kosei Kai church. I would like to engage in discussions that could help me broaden my understanding of Buddhism and I am interested in determining whether or not there is a particular Buddhist sect or school of thought to which I would be well suited.

Hi there. Thank you. I'm pretty inactive on this site, so it always surprises me when I get an email from them saying someone has commented or whatever. It doesn't happen often, and you are the first person I've added as a friend. Yes, I do try to practice Ahimsa in my everyday life. I'm a vegetarian for starters, and I live my life trying to have the smallest footprint I can. My biggest hurdle with Ahimsa is with being non-judgmental, which is considered to be a form of violence against others and oneself. Like you, I battle with OCD and anxiety, although I resorted to medicine when my daughter was two. She is 12 now, and I'm glad I did what I did. I'm a better mother for it. I also have a three-year-old whom we adopted from India, but that's a whole other story. Well, you and I sound a lot alike in some ways. I'd be happy to be your friend and chat with you now and then. Thanks for writing. :) Monica
