About Me
My first grandchild - a beautiful, healthy baby girl - was born in January and I am determined to get healthy in order to enjoy her and, hopefully, more grandchildren. I was bedridden for 89 days in 2007 due to back problems/surgery. I fell out of trusses on a Habitat Women's Build in 2001 and chipped a vertebrae. Long story short, I turned an ankle in February, 2007, and could not do yoga which led to the bone chip settling in my sciatic nerve and causing great pain. I was scheduled to graduate college in May, 2007, but had surgery in April. Right now, I need more energy and stamina in order to finish all the life-changing plans put on hold by my surgery. I'm usually a hyperactive adult (can't understand why anyone would want to take pills for that) and, for the first time in my life, I am pushing myself to do things. At 49/50, I did AmeriCorps, Habitat Construction. I've lived in a backpackers lodge in Zambia for 5 1/2 weeks in order to work with Habitat-Zambia and a bush school. I have been an interior designer, licensed commercial contractor, a chairside dental assistant, a Cisco graduate, and a bookkeeper. I'm currently a caregiver which allows me to set my own schedule and work on a 3 story commercial building I'm buying where I plan to open a quilt shop. I need to be healthy!

Empty Nest - March 1, 2008 - 08:31 AM
Thanks for the encouragement. As a divorced mom, I have to admit I love my empty nest. I come and go as I please and all the messes are mine! Plus the older my children get, the better I like them. I have always loved them but sometimes wondered if they heard anything I said to them. My 2 boys (who stayed with me) are in their early 20s, college-educated, homeowners, and either married or with a good Christian girl. My daughter is struggling but she was/is influenced greatly by her father. I pray for all of them every day.
