About Me
I discovered belief net while googling on the internet to help me deal with a personal crisis. So glad to find a community where ideas of every stripe are openly discussed and welcome for questioning.
I was raised in a non-observant Christian home. During the teenage rebellion years, explored spirituality apart from what I was raised with. The lightbulb went off when it occured to me how little meaning religious dogma really has to do with a rich and meaningful inner life. I arrived to atheism and agnosticism by knowledge and study of comparative religion. I'm not anti-religion, but still can't bring myself to buy it. Some value can be found in many faiths but not one single faith has a total lock on the truth. Humans are just wired to create our own gods in our own image, which helps to explain why they have all the same faults that we do. I'm quite comfortable with lack of dogma and religion in my life and don't need a god to tell me what's right and what's wrong.

Green Tea Room - November 22, 2008 - 12:52 PM
Hello Agnostic Spirit and thanks for creating this Green Tea Room. It looks like the perfect place for those of us who, after children, cats, jobs, marriages and life still want to discuss eternal matters. So often what we meet in life determines who we become regardless of who we were meant to be. I too am a citizen of the world, was born in the Middle East, a Moslem, grew up with french culture, rejected islam through what i heard about it, have travelled extensively, hate narrow paths and preconceived ideas, and finally reconciliated with my true birth religion by going to the sources and finding Sufism. Thhe people you read and the way you writes tells me that you are still a soul looking for God. If i can offer any humble advice, may i recommend to you reading the following books: "The meaning of the Life of Muhammad" by Tariq Ramadan, "The Position of Women in Islam" by Muhamad Syed Ali, "Sui Meditation" by Shaykh Al Kabbani and Websites as those of Dr Abu Fadl, a law Professor at UCLA. Believe these will remove your blocks concerning Islam and show you what true islam is. May i also ask why you chose to post your site on the Islam section of Beliefnet? I am a deep believers that all paths lead to God, we just have to take the time to lokk at what is happening to us as if we were not involved and wonder about the meaning of what we are going through. Regardless of our religion, our personnality, culture, and life, we are all the same human being. The essence is one, the appearance different. You are a rich and deep individual to be able to love and laugh after what you probably have been through in a divorce, and i pray for the Grace of God to reach you. In his Grace to we find ourselves and are given the TRuth. Love, Peace, and may God bless you Hala
