About Me
Hi, I'm Daniel Radosh. I am a freelance writer from Brooklyn, New York, a frequent contributor to The New Yorker and a contributing editor at The Week magazine. Over the years, I've written for The New York Times, Playboy, Esquire, GQ and elsewhere. In the early 1990s, I was a staff writer and editor at Spy magazine.
I'm also the author of the new book Rapture Ready! Adventures in the Parallel Universe of Christian Pop Culture. It's my amused but respectful attempt to answer some fascinating questions about pop Christianity: What does it mean when a band is judged by how hard they pray ratherthan how hard they rock? Would Jesus buy "Jesus junk" or wear "witnesswear"? What do Christian skate parks, raves, and romance novels sayabout evangelicalism — and America?
My exploration of this parallel universe took me through 18 cities and towns in 13 states — from the Bible Belt to theoutskirts of Hollywood. I met a fascinating cast ofcharacters, including Bibleman, the Caped Christian; Rob Adonis, thefounder and star of Ultimate Christian Wrestling; Ken Ham, the nation’sleading prophet of creationism; and Jay Bakker, the son of Jim andTammy Faye and pastor of his own liberal, punk rock church.
Rapture Ready! has been praised by Beliefnet, The Forward, Relevant, and Publisher's Weekly, as well as by authors A.J. Jacobs (The Year of Living Biblically), Brian McLaren (A New Kind of Christian) and Timothy Beal (Roadside Religion). You can read more about the book, and find links to reviews and excerpts, at GetRaptureReady.com.
