Being autistic myself, I suppose I must be biased.
So here is my biased experience: the other autists in my life have helped me the most. We help each other translate the confusing mixed messages, paradoxes, so called "white" lies, and general mind-gamery of the world into something understandable, perhaps even predictable. We help each other conquer mountains of understanding. Further more, only the other autists in my life have been able to understand my social operations sufficiently for describing internal processes to me. It is like we autistics have a certain amount of common language. This suggests to me that an outside perspective could learn our language and work with us, since we are so rigid that trying to make sense of non-autists can be difficult in an extreme.
Just my take, anyway.
