To believe in God is to believe in what God wanted you to believe in. It is not 'what' you wanted to believe in God.
God determines, you obey. If you determines and God obeys then that is amounting to Humanism and not Divine.
See, God asked Satan to bow to Adam, but Satan refused and that resulted in Satanism. Satan wanted God to follow his wish, his belief.
God is higher than truth. The problem is, when truth comes: it is hard to swallow truth as shown by Satan.
Satan knows God but God showed Satan knowing Him alone is not the whole truth. The path (the way to Him - the truth) for Satan is to bow to Adam which the Satan refused.
The Jews proclaimed the truth is only in the legacy of Moses 'alaihissalam, while the Christians say in Jesus Christ, but the Moslems say in Muhammad sallahu 'alaihissalam!
Alas, the way/path to truth is only one.
