Along the rugged Italian coast not far from Genoa, an unusual statue of Christ stands 56 feet under water. His hands are lifted up to bless all who perish at sea. Statue of Christ, wether in Churches or out in the open like the impressive Christ of the Andes, remind us that Christ is Lord. He is everywhere at one time, even in the sea. Christ demonstrated that power when He stilled the waters on the sea of Galilee and brought the disciples safely to shore. A power so great--and especially a power motivated by so great a love and compassion--certainly extends also to our lives. It finds and befriends us in hospitals, in our homes, at work, or in our travels on land, sea, and in the air. He has promised, "I am with you always" ( Matt. 28:20). What a friend, then, we have in Jesus! He bore our sins and griefs, taking them to the cross and to the tomb and leaving them there forever. He exchanges our guilt and grievances for peace with God, peace with our fellow human beings, peace with ourselves, and even peace in ourselves.
