Take the 21-Day Challenge
In my new book, "The Power to Prosper: 21 Days to Financial Freedom" (Zondervan), I challenge people to abstain from all unnecessary spending.
For three weeks I challenge you go on a financial fast.
That means you only buy what is a necessarity, essentially food and medicine, and needed supplies.
No shopping. No window shopping. Don't even go to the mall.
No eating out (and no letting someone pick up the tab for you). And, most certainly, no afternoon Starbucks run.
During the fast, you can't use your credit card. This fast will help you see how wedded you are to credit because it will be hard for you to put it away.
I also challenge you to stop using your debit card -- yes this card is still plastic and can still tempt you to spend more than you have (that's why banks have overdraft protection which means using a debit card is not the same as using cash!).
Studies show that when you use plastic (credit or debit) -- even if you pay off your bill every month -- you spend more than if you used cash.
So, could you go on a financial fast?
Some people do the fast without the book but it's not the same fast.
It's best to get the book because every day I challenge you to look at money a different way. Every day there is a bible scripture to start off the day. There are tips and exercises you have to complete. You will find a budget template and information about getting other templates online.
The book helps you understand that this fast isn't just about curtailing your spending or credit card use. It's about changing the way you handle and view your money. It's about learning to root out the reasons you are always broke.
Even if you are a good steward and handle your money, the book will help you see places where you can be better or perhaps help you understand it's ok to spend a little if you've been a life-long saver.
Here's a link to purchase the book on amazon.com (it's on sale!): www.amazon.com/Power-Prosper-Days-Financ...
So are you up to the challenge?
This fast can be hard so get an accountablity partner. In fact, get a group together or make it a family affair or a ministry project or an office challenge. If you are teaching students about money, get them to do the fast and record their progress.
If you decide to take the 21-day challenge let me know. I'll be here to take your questions or give you support during your financial fast.
Please feel free to leave your questions or testimonies as you go through the fast in the comment section of this post.
I pray that this fast delivers a financial breakthrough!
