I have been learning about a man Nicodemus. I first learned about him through Max Lucado's book "A Cast of Character's."
He is talked about in John 3: 1-17 NAS version.
It starts in verse one: Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews;
2 this man came to Him, Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher, for no one other can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.
3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
4 Nicodemus said to him, " How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?"
5 Jesus answered "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of the water and the Spirit, he cannot enter of the Kingdom of God."
I know someone who really believed verse 5 to be that we had to be born again in our mother's womb which is quite impossible. Notice that Nicodemus asked that question himself. What Jesus is saying is unless we are Baptized (Born of the water) and receive the Holy Spirit (Born of the water and Spirit) we cannot enter the kingdom of God. It is as simple as that! Be Baptized and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. From there you will be able to enter God's Kingdom.
6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7. "Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'
8. " The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the spirit of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.
What come next?
For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have
everlasting life.
So what happens?
He lives.
He gives.
We believe.
We live.
How long do we live?
An eteranl life!
In verse 9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?
10 Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not receive our witness.
11 "If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how shall you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
13 "And no one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from Heaven, even the Son of Man.
14 "And as Moses lifeted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up;
15 that whoever believes may in Him have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, But have eternal life."
17 "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him."
I am stopping right here. Anyone else can read further if they want to. Why do people have such a hard time coming to God? He gave His Son in return for us to just belive in Him.
All God wanted was for us to step up and say I believe that you gave your Son (Jesus) and that Jesus died on the Cross for my sins. In turn I am willing to accept Jesus into my heart and turn my life around and follow Him.
It's that simple. Just accepting Him into your hear, being Baptized, and what really counts is finding a good church to keep you in good fellowship with Him.
God Bless,
