Few of us ever think of Issac Newton as the begining of the Age of Reason. But before that apple dropped on his head, man lived in the age of Mystics.
That happening sparked a new awareness into the consiousness of man. Newton, rather than accepting the apples fall, as personal, instead sought to see beyond the veil, into its universality.
