As I listened to the non stop coverage of Tiger Woods marital problems, I couldn't believe my ears.
On almost every network, most especially MSNBC, the attitude of complicity with those who live in the limelight who have extramarital affairs , was appalling to me.
I am in no way a prude, but neither am I in favor a others having a cavielere attitude regarding adultery. These reporters felt more inclined to believe that its just the norm, than in the fact a relationship is at stake here.
Again, I fall back upon our dismissal of our own values. These commentators were coming up with excuse after excuse for why Tiger was expected to fall prey to these temptations. After all he's not perfect, and a man in his position, has women throwing themselves at him all the time. So does that mean, he should play catch?
I would ask these same people isn't a vow, a vow, wither you are rich or poor? Isn't a commitment to something great then yourself (in this case a marriage) of utmost importance? And should we dismiss affairs, as if they should be an expected form of behavior?
Again I believe we have a tendency in this country, to forgive those who have money and power, faster , than we do than we do our own husbands or family members.. who did the same thing. Money makes all things right, for many people in America.. Then why are we so shocked by greed? Isnt having an affair out side of a marriage, another form of greed?
I just couldnt believe how easily we can excuse a man , and how so many, even women, believe this is happening... who then say.... so what?
Well maybe its not as simple as they think. Maybe it comes down to more than power and money...maybe it comes down to more than playing games, or a men's club mentality? Maybe its because we have lost, what being a man of your word means? Maybe we have lost what it means to really be a man.
In fact, there is no maybe here...it is indeed the truth. Our society as a whole, has lost much of what it valued. We ask why there are so many divorces, why kids are taking guns to school..and why there are so many child preditors.. Well maybe its time we look to see what it is we truly place our values on.
Could it be, we place more importance on sex, and its rights, than on things that are deserving of our values. Commitment for one. We can take this even further, when we allow for politics without principles... pleasure without conscience... knowledge without character... this is what is called, the distortion of Americas' character.
When we take God out of our consciousness... our consciousness no longer seeks to reflect Him.
I dont speak of a God who condemns, nor even a God who loves and forgives...I am speaking of a God, who inspires us to be our best..that not living up to our best character, makes us realize we are falling short of who we were meant to be.
When we commit to living our life, in the best character we can...temptation can no longer be blamed on "the devil made me do it!" For when we take on our character, we take full charge of its actions. We become completely in charge of it. We cant make excuses. For our Highest Inspiration, knows no excuses. It is what it is, and it sees, and expects the same from us. It seeks to see our Word become our Bond. Our commitments to be fulfilled, and a vow, to be highly respected.
It is this example of ou Higherst Good, that we should all aspire to. If we want our Country to live what it says, it believes. If we want our best values and principles to be followed. And if we wish to show the best example of what it means to be a force for good...to our children and our childrens , children..
So thanks Tiger, for your open Confession regarding your past transgressions...for you gave those who have eyes to see, and ears to hear..another chance at improving who they are. For no man is perfect, unless he commits to his own perfection, in the name, of all that is Good.
