BEFORE I GO

    Saturday, April 19, 2008, 1:01 PM [General]

When my life has reached it's very end,

And I take that final breath,

I want to know I've left behind,

    Some "good" before my death.

I hope that in my final hour,

In all honesty I can say,

    That somewhere in my lifetime,

    I have brightened someone's day.

That maybe I have brought a smile

    To someone else's face,

And made one moment a little sweeter,

While they dwelled here in this place.

    Lord, please be my reminder

And wisper softly in my ear...

To be a "giver" not a "taker,"

In the years I have left here.

Give to me the strenght I need,

Open up my mind and my soul,

That I might show sincere compassion,

And love to others before I go.

For if not a heary be touched by me,

And not a smile has left behind...

Then the life that I am blessed with,

Will have been a waste of time.

With all my heart, I truly hope,

To leave something here on earth.

That touched another, made them smile

    And gave to my life......worth.

    A Sense Of Humor

    Friday, March 21, 2008, 8:29 AM [General]

How blest to have a sense of humor--

that casts away doom and gloom!

It lightens the trial, lifts the load,

and gives to the burdened room...

    To turn netative to positive

and see the bright side of things,

It then prompts the body to laughter--

    awakened, the spirit sings!

It's a balmy salve for the weary,

    needed tonic for the sad--

Just simple words, but spoken in fun,

can make the faintest heart glad!

No-one needs always to be serious--

    nor should countenance be glum,

For, behind the clouds the sky is clear

and there, shining, is the sun!

So shed your tears, minimize your ills--

don't dwell just upon the "worst!"

A smile or two, coming forth from you,

can make that dire bubble to burst!

Then sharpen your sense of humor, friend,

as on the saddened you call,

If your glad heart is tuned to the Lord,

you'll be a blessing to all!

A Hymn With The History Behind It.

    Tuesday, March 11, 2008, 9:32 AM [General]

("Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" John 1:29)

Words: Charlotte Elliott, 1835; first appeared in The Christian Remembrancer, whose editor Elliott became in 1836. The last verse is from Elliott's Hours of Sorrow Cheered and Comforted, 1836.

Music: Woodworth, William B. Bradbury, Mendelssohm Collection, or Third Book of Psalmody (New York: 1849) (MIDI,score). Alternate tunes:

Misericordia, Henry T. Smart, in Hymns Ancient and Modern, 1875 (MIDI,score)

Saffron Walden, Arther H. Brown, in The Hymnal Companion, 1890 (MIDI,score)

Miss Charlotte Elliott was visiting some friends in the West End of London, and there met the eminent minister, Cesar Malan. While seated at supper, the minister said he hoped that she was a Christian. She took offense at this, and replied that she would rather not discuss that question. Dr. Malan said that he was sorry if had offended her, that he always like to speak a word for his Master, and that he hoped that the young lady would some day become a worker for Christ. When they met again at the house of a mutual friend, three weeks later, Miss Elliott told the minister that ever since he had spoken to her she had been trying to find her Saviour, and that she now wished him to tell her how to come to Christ. "Just come to him as you are," Dr. Malan said. This she did, and went away rejoicing. Shortly afterwards she wrote this hymn.

About these words, her brother said:

In the course of a long ministry, I hope I have been permitted to see some of the fruit of my labor, but I feel that far more has been done by a single hymn of my sister's.

JUST AS I AM, WITHOUT ONE PLEA

Just as I am, without one plea,

But that Thy blood was shed for me,

And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,

Oh Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, and waiting not

To rid my soul of one dark blot,

To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot,

Oh Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about

With many a conflict, many a doubt,

    Fightings and fears within, without,

Oh Lamb of God, I come, I come.

    Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind;

Sight, riches, healing of the mind,

Yea, all I need in Thee to fine,

Oh Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,

    Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;

    Because Thy promise I believe,

Oh Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, Thy love unknown

    Hath broken every barrier down;

Now, to be Thine, yea, Thine alone,

Oh Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, of that free love

The breath, length, depth, and height to prove,

Here for a season, then above,

Oh Lamb of God, I come, I come.

    Poem of Patience

    Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 6:25 PM [General]

"O thou of little faith, God hath not failed thee yet! - When all looks dark and gloomy, thou dost soon forget!

"Forget that He has led thee, and gently cleared thy way - On clouds has poured His sunshine, and turned thy night to day!

And if He's helped thee hitherto, He will not fail thee now - How it must wound His loving heart, to see thy anxious brow!

Oh! doubt not any longer, to Him COMMIT thy way - Whom in the past thou trusted, and is just the same today!" --Anomomous.

    You Are Everything To Me

    Friday, February 15, 2008, 8:27 PM [General]

    You're like a stream

    When I run dry.

    You are my wings

    When I can't fly.

    When my strength fails

    You're strong for me.

    You are my eyes

    When I can't see.

    You're my sunrise

    When nights are long.

    When sunset comes

    You are my song.

    Stay on Course (About Respect)

    Wednesday, February 13, 2008, 7:22 PM [General]

    God is Spirit

    God is Light

    God is Power

    God is Might.

    Follow His Will

    and He will help you;

    Show Him respect

and do the job He gave you.

    For Biblical love is Respect

    and such Respect is love,

So finish you life with respect

    And your balance correct.

    Then, with God's mission run,

    and your assignment complete,

    You will have nothing left

    but judgement to meet.

And when your time has come,

    depart with a smile:

    knowing what you've done

    has been well worthwhile...

    Amen

    The Rustle of Angel Wings

    Monday, February 11, 2008, 9:25 PM [General]

    I looked for You in big things;

    I couldn't find You there.

    I cried; I sighed;

For others seemed to see You Everywhere.

I wanted just to know You

    So much to hear You speak;

But alas, I found that others heard Your voice; Not me.

A child smiled at me today

And suddenly I knew Your smile!

In little things unnoticed! Lord, It was You.

"Seek and you shall find Me in every little thing."

    Finally, I'm listening!

Did I just hear the Rustle of Angel Wings?

    A Friend Is A Treasure

    Sunday, February 3, 2008, 10:45 PM [General]

A friend is someone we turn to

When our spirits need a lift,

A friend is someone we treasure

For our friendship is a gift,

A friend is someone who fills our lives

    With beauty, joy, and grace

And makes the world we live in

    A better and happier place.
