Women and my faith

    Thursday, January 12, 2012, 10:35 PM [General]

I am tired of people saying my faith denigrates women. These people engage mouth first and later (if at all) engage brain. These people think they know the facts when they don't. That said, I will now draw out for you a few things that, indeed, are fact.

"Elder James Talmage, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has said, 'The world's greatest champion of woman and womanhood is Jesus the Christ.'" Daughters in My Kingdom, (2011) p. 3. This implies that the Savior loved, respected, taught, and forgave women; in other words, he treated men and women the same when it came to spiritual matters.

"The women in the ancient Church were dignified and noble, needed and valued. They served others, increased in personal holiness, and participated in the great work of saving souls. These patterns  have been restored in the latter days through the organization of Relief Sciety." Daughters in My Kingdom, (2011) p.7

"The Prophet Joseph Smith declared, 'The Church was never perfectly organized until the women were thus organized.'" Daughters in My Kingdom, (2011) p. 7. Joseph Smith had to have both respect and admiration for women to say that.

After His resurrection, He first appeared to a woman (John 20:1-18). While suffering on the cross, He entrusted His mother's care to a disciple (John 19:25-27). He did this to ensure His mother would be taken care of. At that time, it was not acceptable for women to make there own livelihoods.

"Most of all, I am grateful for who you are: a treasured daughter of our Heavenly Father with infinite worth." The Remarkable Soul of a Woman, (2010) p. 5. Does that sound like denigration to you?

    A New Year

    Sunday, January 1, 2012, 3:15 PM [General]

Well, we've turned the page on yet another year. The Mayan long-count calendar ends in June (the subject of many conversations), I graduate from undergrad and go to grad school. I will probably move in the process. My resolution? Don't get overwhelmed! I'm much to busy to get caught up in the Mayan debate. I just mentioned it as an interesting fact. Hope you enjoy the new year.

    Snow

    Friday, February 12, 2010, 12:55 PM [General]

Hey, guys! It's snowing here, and I have a feeling we're gonna get more than three inches. It's almost white-out conditions, so I'm content staying inside. We don't have all the fancy machinery they have in the north and plains; best the city can do is sand, and then it's only the main roads.

    It's snowing!

    Thursday, January 7, 2010, 12:00 PM [General]

I know that some of you are saying, Big whoop. In AL, it is big; the city comes to a grinding halt (except emergency vehicles.) I don't think the snow is what stops the city in its tracks, though; I think it's the threat of ice; because the best we can do in that situation is sand. (It would be asenine for the city to get a salt truck.)

    Christmas Eve

    Thursday, December 24, 2009, 4:59 PM [General]

As this is Christmas Eve, I, along with a lot of other people, will probably not be here. So I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. And as you give your gifts tomorrow, remember the little boy who was born and had to be placed in a manger because there was no room for him in the inn. May he never hear the words "No room" from us.

    Our experiences

    Sunday, December 13, 2009, 6:14 PM [General]

Though we may be angry at some of the things we've been through, we must always remember that our experiences have shaped who we are today. And though we may not ever have wanted to go through those experiences, they have taught us lessons we would never have learned any other way. The burdens make you stronger; the questions make you wiser.

    We are not adrift

    Saturday, December 12, 2009, 4:29 PM [General]

As we go through life day to day (and sometimes moment by moment) we are not adrift in the sea we call life. Each of us has a mission and purpose for being here. It is up to us to find, and then live, that mission and purpose. When we do find it, our lives will be brighter and more organized.

    Christmas

    Friday, November 27, 2009, 12:15 PM [General]

I'm sure this theme has popped up again and again, but whatever happened to the family getting together for Christmas being a gift in and of itself? Be thankful we have a nice, warm house so our families can come together and not freeze. Christmas is WAY too comercialized today. Little Billy's going to cry because he got the wrong matchbox car. Daddy will complain that his slippers are the wrong color-oh, and my all-time favorite-the person who says nothing at all after unwrapping a gift, a gift, by the way, that someone had put a lot of time and effort to give that someone something the giver thought the recicpient would like. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE!!! It's enough to drive a person insane.

Airlines overprice their tickets cause they know they can get what they're asking, fuel goes sky-high, and the real reason-Christ and family togetherness-fly right out the window!

    Thanksgiving

    Monday, November 23, 2009, 8:04 PM [General]

As you eat your turkey and pumpkin pie, remember that this day is set aside for us to give thanks to God. There are so many things to be thankful for, such as the basic necessities of food, clothing, and shelter. So, pray for those who aren't as fortunate, and be thankful for what you have!

    Gratitude

    Wednesday, November 18, 2009, 2:48 PM [General]

I don't know about you, but when things are going hunky-dorry, I don't have a problem being grateful. It's when the chips are down, when cherished beliefs are challenged, it is then that our gratitude counts the most. I am grateful to Heavenly Father for the blessings he gives me every day. As one guy put it, "I might be down, but I'm not out.
