I am interested in learning about religion and spirituality both for academic interest and in terms of my own personal spiritual development, although the two things feel closely related for me. I am particularly interested in the ancient world and recently completed a study of representations of women in Greek literature from both a Pagan and Christian perspective.

More recently I have been very interested in the historical study of Jesus of Nazareth.

I have  attended Quaker Meeting irregularly for the last few years. It seems like the right place for me not only because I dislike being tied down to specific theological statements but more positively because its emphasis on fulfilling Jesus' ethical and social teachings such as non violence, concern for the disadvantaged and also the turning away from the gross materialism that is such an ugly feature of our society is very important to me.  I have not settled into regular attendance partly because at the moment I am not permanently settled in one place geographically.

I hope to learn much and engage in interesting and civil discussion.
