Exactly. I love in an area of the country where a lot of kids go to Christian schools where memorizing the Bible is part of the curriculum. I say memorizing because too many have no understanding of what it is they are asked to regurgitate.

Social Justice as define by Dictionary.com is define as the distribution of advantages and disadvantages within a society.

While justice deals with the substance and rules for guiding ordinary, everyday human interactions, charity deals with the spirit of human interactions and with those exceptional cases where strict application of the rules is not appropriate or sufficient. Charity offers expedients during times of hardship. Charity compels us to give to relieve the suffering of a person in need. The highest aim of charity is the same as the highest aim of justice: to elevate each person to where he does not need charity but can become charitable himself.

True charity involves giving without any expectation of return. But it is not a substitute for justice.

Many confuse the distributive principles of justice with those of charity. Charity involves the concept "to each according to his needs," whereas "distributive justice" is based on the idea "to each according to his contribution." Confusing these principles leads to endless conflict and scarcity, forcing government to intervene excessively to maintain social order.

Therefore, social justice
philanthropy becomes a process through which we as a society increase the ability of the least well off to attain greater political, economic and social power and a more equal society.
So please tell me, and maybe I am not "educated enough" in the Bible but how would Jesus have taught and done miracles if everyone had the same amount of money, social or political power???
I think you need to reconsider what the churches actual definition of "social justice" actually is. If it doesn't mean the simple term of "Charity" then I just happen to agree with Glenn Beck.

Look, I am not a Glenn Beck apologist. I think he has some things right…and I think that he goes a bit overboard on other things. Fine. But there are so many people…some good people and some people who are just looking for reasons to slam Beck, Mormons or Conservatives.

This is very simple…everyone needs to pay attention to the distinction I’m about to draw. Beck is NOT advocating for people to leave their churches because the church teaches that we ought to help take care of the poor and needy. THIS IS CRAZY!

Beck knows the Mormon Doctrine quite well…but, even if he didn’t…you don’t need to know much about the Mormon faith to realize that they believe in helping the poor and needy and serving all of their brothers and sisters, whether they be of the Mormon faith or any other faith. Do you know a Mormon? Generally, they give of a much more substantial portion of their time AND money to serving their church and others. This is a very basic and important part of their teachings.

When Beck uses the term “Social Justice” as something to stay away from in your church, he is obviously (and he has attempted to clarify this to the deaf ears of his critics, Mormonism’s critics, and critics of Conservatism) talking about what that term has been politically charged to mean in many “socialist” type churches.

HERE IS THE DISTINCTION EVERYONE….GOVERNMENT! He is saying that it is NOT the responsibility or the right of our GOVERNMENT to redistribute wealth under the banner of “social justice.” It is NOT the responsibility or right of our GOVERNMENT to take from those “according to their ability” in order to give to those “according to their need.”

This concept of taking care of people who are in need and helping to lift them up out of poverty and help train and teach them to take care of themselves and become self-sustaining, is INDEED a responsibility we all share and a concept that JESUS taught. But NOT that our GOVERNMENT should take that right or responsibility to even the playing field according to how they see fit.

Yes, Jesus taught a “social justice.” Yes, Marx taught a “social justice.” Jesus taught it should come from the people and from the Church. Marx taught it should come from the GOVERNMENT. So…which one do we follow? Marx or Jesus?

Some churches follow Marx’s teachings and use Jesus’ teachings to justify it. Some churches follow Jesus’ teachings.

Beck says follow Jesus and forget Marx.

So, if you really want to understand what Beck meant….you will understand this post. If you really don’t want to understand what Beck meant, I’m sure you will continue to beat him about the head with a stick that doesn’t exist.

When I was finding my Spiritual Way, I criticized and chastised "Cafeteria Catholics" and "Picky Christians". Once I found my religion, I realized that I had become a hypocrite - I am a "Picky Cafeterian Pagan Wiccan." Does that mean that I am not strong in my beliefs or committed to my religion? No. Does it mean that I ignore certain ways or thoughts? No. To me, Mr. Beck is a "Cafeteria Mormon" - which is his decision - but he is ignoring primary concepts and ways of the Mormon church. Doing so is dangerous, especially if you are asking others of your "faith" to follow along.
Mr. Beck has the right to his opinion; he does not have the right or privilege to change religious law or texts...unless he is the "new" Messiah?
