My older sister Mary at a young age in 1996 was blind in one eye after having a stroke. She was told by doctors throughout the years her sight would never return. This last eye doctor she has been to, test showed that there was something behind both of her eyes. Doctor wasn't sure what it was. He told Mary she would need surgery, one eye at a time.
She and I talked about her eye surgery and we believe her sight would return once she had the operation. She was somewhat afraid to go through the operation and happy at the same time maybe about getting her sight back.
On her next visit she asked the doctor if she would be able to see again after the surgery. Doctor assured her she had lost that eye completely to the stroke and would never see again. The doctor explained he was going to operate on her blind eye first, to find out what was there. He said he didn't want to mess with her good eye in case something went wrong. Didn't want to mess with her sight in that eye.
Mary had her eye operation yesterday morning and she was there at the hospital nearly all day till late evening. I tried calling her over and over the night before her operation to encourage her not to be afraid and everything would be alright, but her phone was out due to the bad weather. I pray for her most of the night and all day yesterday.
Mary phoned me after she got home late in the evening to let me know the operation was over and she didn't feel any pain durning the surgery. She was told to keep the patch over her eye to keep out the light. Mary said she felt the urge to remove the patch just a bit and so she did. Pulling the blanket over her head as not to let light in and she slowly peeled back the tape holding the patch. She was so surprise she could see everything. She was so happy she could see everything and didn't know how to react, she felt like she wanted to shout , jump and cry all at the same time. She didn't cry, was afraid tears might do damage to her eye so she didn't. I think I cried enough tears of joy for us both.
Mary was upset she didn't get to talk with me the night before because her phone was out. She said she was praying all the way to the hospital. Praying The Our Father over and over again. This is a miracle and God has answered our prayers. Though the doctor didn't believe Mary would ever gain her sight back, we never did give up believing one day it would. Thanks be to God
