[General]
Vassa is entered on the first or second full moon in July for 3 months of the year. It started because of the Buddha thought it would be good for the bhikshus and the bhikshunis to observe a communal effort in practice as a community. It means that no matter where you are in the world you stop doing activities like commmunity services and join in the vassa to restore yourself and your practice along with the others. If we are separated by distance we have the option to observe Vassa by ourselves when we do not travel unnecessarily and concentrate on our practice. We are not isolated but focused entirely on our practice and renewal during this time. Bhikshus only observe Vassa with Bhikshus and Bhikshunis only with Bhikshunis. Vassa is observed by all traditions; however, it goes according to temple rules and specializations.371d36d75e05eda735858f8e467be99c
