Apparently, more than 30 states have secession petetions going:

Huff post article:

www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/13/petiti...

Part of the article:

Residents in more than 30 states have filed secession petitions with the "We the People" program on the White House website.

Petitions to strip citizenship of individuals signing onto petitions to secede and exile them have also been submitted.

A threshold of 25,000 signatures must be met within 30 days for petitions to be reviewed. The Obama administration explains, "If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and we will issue a response."

Snop'd

Due to the way that the website is set up, it's almost certainly for show, and even if it wasn't, Obama reserves the right to ignore things he doesn't want to have to deal with.

I blame the right-wing media for this. They've so built up Obama as this bogeyman (completely disconnected from anything he's actually done) that the average winger now thinks of him as somewhere between Stalin and Satan (and not the fun one that I worship either). No matter how much the right-wing media bubble tries to rewrite history, the left were nowhere near this bad about Bush. I fully expect that, sometime in the next four years, teh Congressional GOP will try to impeach Obama on the first pretense they can dream up.

1. As I note in my post, this is basically a temptest in a teapot.

2. Actually, a lot of liberals were that bad. For example, you had Cindy Sheehan whining about how hurricanes Katrina and Rita were stealing media attention away from her protest efforts, referring to the pair as "a little wind and a little rain". You had Harry Belafonte calling Powell and Rice "house slaves" because they were working for Bush rather than a Democrat. You also had hordes of liberals and Democrats swearing that they'd leave the country in 2000 and 2004 if Bush won. And that was just the tip of the iceberg.

I think we might want to let some of these folks go ahead and secede, and form their own nation.

No, they really weren't. Neither Cindy Sheehan or Harry Belafonte were elected officials or even media personalities the way Rush, Beck, etc were. I know full well that the right as a whole have agreed to pretend that liberals were simply beastly to Bush for both his terms but it's just not true and I know it's not true because I was visiting the left's websites and blogs during that time. Despite the revisionism, very few liberals and none either in office or with their own tv shows were calling Bush a fascist but I could find any number of conservatives in those positions calling Obama a fascist or a socialist or a communist (usually, they're insane enough to think those are all roughly the same thing). There was no Tea party style uprising against Bush of liberals throwing a gigantic hissy fit that they were no longer in charge. There was no wealth of racist signs carried at protests, there was no public figure talking about secession (as Rick Perry did) or talking about "don't retreat, reload" (Palin) or "second amendment remedies" (Angle). When one BBC documentry was filmed called Death Of A President (which was mainly about the succession process and what a sudden death would mean to the then-ongoing war in Iraq), the right screamed their heads off and demanded it was pulled but you can go to any Teabagger rally and find signs wishing death on Obama. No elected Democrat said that the Democrat's number one priority was to deny Bush a second term or filibustered every single thing he tried to do.

No, the left were not this bad or anywhere near it and claiming they were is either a deliberate lie or proves how susceptable you are to the lies being told to you.

I wonder how many of these successionists also consider themselves to be "true patriots", as O'Reilly and Hannity likes to call their followers?

My Grandfather worked most of his adult life as a police officer and detective. He had a saying:

"The easiest way to tell somebody is lying is when they go out of their way to keep reminding you they're telling the truth."

If the Teabaggers and regressives don't like the way the election went there is no law keeping them in the United States. They're free to leave anytime the want. They may even be able to persuade Sheldon Adelson and/or the Koch brothers to buy one way tickets for them.

"When it shall be said in any country in the world, my poor are happy; neither ignorance nor distress is to be found among them; my jails are empty of prisoners, my streets of beggars; the aged are not in want, the taxes are not oppressive; the rational world is my friend, because I am a friend of its happiness: When these things can be said, then may the country boast its constitution and its government." -- Thomas Paine: The Rights Of Man (1791)
