Italy's highest court on Wednesday upheld guilty verdicts on 23 Americans for the kidnapping of an Egyptian Muslim cleric, in the first criminal convictions for CIA "rendition" flights during the U.S. 'war on terror'.

The Americans - 22 CIA agents and one Air Force pilot - who are believed to be in the United States and were tried in their absence - are unlikely to serve their sentences. But they will be unable to travel to Europe without risking arrest.

What does personal risk have to do with kidnap and torture?

Please provide a link that outlines the trial where this person was convited of terrorist acts and then explain why a person, having been convicted by a court of law, is walking around Italy.

And yes, the Egyptian government tortured people at our urging, something that President Obama wanted to continue.

Surely you can do your own research.............

I don't take the Italian government too seriously although I enjoyed visiting Italy.

Perhaps you can give us a site about Obama favoring torture.

From the OP piece by the Chicago Tribune presented by Chari :

In 2007 the European Parliament found at least 1,245 CIA flights were made into or over Europe in the four years after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.

U.S. President Barack Obama has tried to distance himself from heavy handed intelligence tactics employed by the previous Bush administration, and ordered the CIA to close its long-term prisons in 2009.

Amnesty International welcomed the Italian court's decision, and that's good enough for me.  They said that those CIA agents were guilty of 'really egregious human rights violations.'

It's all part of that Bush plan known as 'rendition,' that was widely condemned by human rights organisations.  We've all read enough about how people have been taken away by U.S. agents, imprisoned and tortured, and kept in secret prisons without being charged.

Hmm  well hopefully it is a more just and better verdict than what the courts threw at that Amanda Knox and her boyfriend.  Ready to throw that girl away for life with zero evidence
