As a child I remember the first refrigerator my parents had was run on natural gas.  I found it strange the cold could come from heat.

Now my husband and I have an RV travel trailer and the refrigerator runs on electricity when plugged in, but it also runs on propane when we travel or have no electricity.  It beats the ice box I had back in the 70's in my van.  I would have to buy blocks of ice to keep it cool.  Actually, I'm not sure if blocks of ice are still sold, but I haven't looked for them lately either.

They are, but not in many places.  I see them now and then when we travel, and not always in the same sort of place.  You can now get refridgerators that run from your cigarette lighter, but that only works while the car is running.  It's always something, isn't it?

Times have certainly changed. Back when I was camping in the van the blocks of ice were a common thing to find next to the bags of ice.  After I was widowed I took my 6 month old baby girl, 3 year old son and 10 year old daughter and we maily KOA-ed from TX to CA then up to Yellowstone then home.  We lived out of the van for 3 weeks. I learned it is easier to take care of children at home, but I would do it again for the strength the trip gave me.

My favorite thing about refridgerators is the little magical fairie who turns on the light when you open the door.

You're all wrong.

The BREAST is the most important innovation in the history of food.

And I'll drink to that.

I don't remember iceboxes just the frig with the motor on top and the teeny tiny freezer which was just enoughspace for an ice tray or one or 2 packages of meat.      My mother still sometimes refers to the frig as the icebox.        I crack up when I help her unpack her grocerys.   She'll say oh just put it in the icebox for now.    She's 84
