On a side note, it is difficult to judge whether this should be done in public.  You really cannot have Jr. Soldiers and Airmen seeing their CO's breasts, no matter how innocent breast feeding is.

The problem I have is not with the women breast-feeding in public but with the negative reaction that some people have, including some women, against a very natural act.  My wife breast-fed our kids, and sometimes it simply wasn't convenient to go hiding in a corner somewhere, so she used a light blanket to cover.  I've been in Europe and Israel where many women just openly breast feed, and it's really not a big deal.

If someone doesn't like it, let me recommend they not look.  I have more problems seeing guns being carried around by some in public, and a pair of breasts ain't likely to kill anyone.

Just because you want to sexualize breasts doesn't mean it should determine policy. Tongue Out

Anyone else in uniform making a big deal about this should be charged with sexual harrassment, IMO.

The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,
While hammers fell like ringing bells
In places deep, where dark things sleep,
In hollow halls beneath the fells.

For ancient king and elvish lord
There many a gloaming golden hoard
They shaped and wrought, and light they caught
To hide in gems on hilt of sword.

Men tend to sexualize breasts. Our sexuality is hard-wired into visual cues. It's not something we can just turn off. I resent the quasi-feminists notions that we can.

That said, I also see his point, it might not be approriate for jr. soldiers and airmen to see their COs breast.

But, I also see your point, breast feeding isn't sexual. And also it's not like it has to involve a flashing of the entire boob.

First, who exactly is upset by this?

Second, the whole thing seems to me to be staged to shock you.  Like "hey, look at me I am being outrageous and scandalous by nursing my baby in uniform"  "Remember look at me!"  Does anyone really care or are they a bit annoyed at being told they should care?

I don't think your average mother needs to change her clothes in order to breast feed her baby.  I don't think the first thing a nursing mother should do when she gets off duty is immediately change her clothes so she might nurse.  As far as I am concerned, the uniform should not be deliberately abused and you should not pose for porn while wearing it but just sort of live a normal life.    Heck, I don't care if you even have sex while wearing the uniform (or part of the uniform as logistics demand).    However, please don't take pictures of yourself having sex while wearing the US military uniform and send those pictures to national media.  That would be what we call tacky.  Further, I fail to see the class or wisdom in sending pictures of yourself nursing your baby to the national media either.  As if the rest of the country really cares about your boobs or your nursing.  I have the feeling these women are sort of desparate for attention so they are trying to do something/anything that might get attention and they are creating faux drama because it involves thier breasts.  boring

UPDATE:

The Washington state woman who orchestrated controversial photos of military moms breast-feeding their kids in uniform was fired from her civilian job as an X-ray technician and the women in the picture have been reprimanded, she said.

I support their cause, but I really hadn't thought about the fact that they would be prohibited from wearing their uniforms in an effort to support a cause...

According to reports, the military moms in the photographs have been reprimanded by the military for violating a rule stating that military uniforms cannot be used to promote a product or cause.

I guess that makes sense.

That not only MAKES SENSE, but that's also a STANDING REGULATION.

The X-ray tech and the two ANG ladies should've known that.

I'm not really sure why the x-ray tech should have been fired, though.  I mean, she was a civilian, and she didn't break any laws herself.  I don't question her private employers legal right to fire her, but I do question the fairness of it.  She's simply trying to promote awareness and acceptance of breastfeeding.  I certainly don't see it as grounds for termination.

Cess if you flagrantly violate your employer's regulation, is it possible you could be fired?

Do you think the x-ray tech ignored company regs?  She is - after all - the one who sent the photos in.  Do you you think the command she worked caught major heat for what she did?

The x-ray tech was a military VETERAN as well as a DoD employee.  She should've known.  She should've cleared her shoot with her supervisor before going off and doing it.  She didn't.  She didn't follow the company regs so she got canned.
