This article reports that Mexico's food production dropped by 40% which is catastrophic for a poor country. People will flee from this famine to the US. I do not blame them one bit.

I had not heard of that; very sad. Hopefully other nations will be able to make up the gap. I'm not a farmer but I think things have been okay in the US and Canada recently. Food is a worldwide commodity these days.

The drop in food production is due to NAFTA. Mexican farmers cannot compete with the American technology and subsidies to agriculture. They prefer to go as illegals to the States to pick up harvests.

There is a new trade agreement with Colombia. Some farmers there (not all of them. Flower growers are fine) are worried they are going to have the same problem. |

And I think this is quite scandalous. Our news media report about pastor Terry Jones' pointless activities and the latest sports events, but this kind of really important news is just not provided. Not by the private owned media, who can be pardoned here I guess, but neither by the public owned media, whose very task it is to report this. Sick.

Because the American Monoculture just is better! Imagine the scandalousness: Last year it was cheaper to distribute, in North Kenya, food imported from the USA to the Somali draught refugees, than to buy the exceptionally rich harvest from Southern Kenya for the same purpose. And USAid of course is bound to buy American, I guess by Congress...

Yes ... "American" Agriculture is The "WalMart" of Food Production, heavily dependent upon HUGE Applications of Life-Killing Chemicals and profligate WASTE of TopSoil and Fresh Water ... It will "crash" eventually ...
