Please do not confuse Chafee with conservative; he was probably the most liberal Republican in the party's history. A RINO in today's terminolgy.

Should I also consider Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Charles Grassley (R-IA), Robert Bennett (R-UT), and Christopher Bond (R-MO) RINOS? They all supported individual health insurance mandates in the 1980's & 90's.

Chafee was pro-choice. He was also against the death penalty, school prayer and "don't ask, don't tell". He supported a nationwide handgun ban. Doesn't sound very conservative to me, and I'm card carrying commie pinko scum.

To be fair though, the mandate was a conservative idea. Now they say its unconstitutional. Their constitutional "originalism" is little more than a political tool. About one step above flag waving and baby kissing.
