About 9 billion animals are slaughtered every year. Is it necessary? |

I have offered several sources over the last several months that show meat is part of a healthy diet. Not that nonmeat eaters are "unhealthy" (they can be) but that to be healthy there is no reason to go meat-free. Each time, each source was meet with some bullshit excuse as to why my source is invalid. EACH TIME. This happened to many other posters here too. So here is ANOTHER (amoung many) sources lifestyles.mdmagazine.com/publications/M... And for goodness sake meat is part of the food pyramid and Michelle Obama's plate thing. Red wine - very beneficial if you have a glass. Coffee, very beneficial if you don't drink gallons of it a day. Dark Chocolate - good for you if you stick to an once. Not so great if you eat a pound a day Sex, good for you unless you are obsessed and do it in inappropriate places with inappropriate people. Meat is the same thing, good for you if you choose the right kind of meat and you don't eat too much. |

Dave - Just a Man in the Mountains.
I am a Humanist. I believe in a rational philosophy of life, informed by science, inspired by art, and motivated by a desire to do good for its own sake and not by an expectation of a reward or fear of punishment in an afterlife. |

christine Any of us can generate statistics. I don't eat much any longer but I do eat beef, poultry and some shellfish. Many veggies don't much agree with me and never have. I had a very sound moral and philosophical background through the college level. In a liberal Catholic college and beyond I have never run into the rigidity I have seen by vegans and vegetarians on this board. Eat and live as you wish. I am weary of solf's crusades. Murder is rampant in Syria--that concerns me. I was educated in the high and liberal dimensions of Catholic thought where we were encouraged to seek the best of ourselves. I'm a devotee of Thomas Merton. Our outlooks vary and that is okay. I doubt you have studied Thomas Merton. J.
