I know that in Greece you don't have to pay taxes if your salary is something like 20K or less.

sooooo,,,,,,,,   hardly anyone has a salary above 20K (or whatever that number is).    The most prestigious plastic surgeons can't seem to make more than 20K per year in Greece.  The proprietors of the busiest, most sought after restaurants can't seem to make more than 20K.  Hardly anyone makes more than 20K a year because everyone pays in cash under the table.

So Greece would probably just want to start enforcing their tax codes.

Not "everyone" .

If everyone did there would be no "austerity" from which to cut.

In Greece those earning over " 20K " would by definition be the "rich",  the  " 1%'s".

The question stands , why has not one word of the Greek   " 1%'s" paying their fair share that all

may have a shot at the Greek dream been mentioned ?

the problem was anyone who could get away with it was not paying taxes in Greece.  Some people had an easier time than others in getting the lion's share of their money under the table.  A girlfriend of mine just moved back from Greece a couple of years ago.  She said it was amazing how they got around it.  Even the public school teachers where her kids attended school would be paid a salary (more than 20K) but would get the majority of thier money from tutoring kids.  According to her it would be very challenging to get a good grade without special tutoring so most of the kids paid for special tutoring.  And of course no taxes were paid for the cash transaction.
