In addition to having no nutrional value, processed and refined sugar is most definitely NOT a natural food for humans. And it is not a harmless substance by any means. And since there are plenty of people out there who have high blood sugar and may not know it, learning about processed sugar would be helpful to them. Because processed sugar is most definitely linked to type 2 diabetes. As well, sugar in the bloodstream can lead to heart problems.

If our bodies are truely our own, as some would argue on other issues, we can eat whatever we damned well please and the do gooders should just butt out.
For those who have faith, no explanation is neccessary.
For those who have no faith, no explanation is possible. St. Thomas Aquinas If one turns his ear from hearing the Law, even his prayer is an abomination. Proverbs 28:9 |

What does "but out" mean? You are bothered with what the "do gooders " say, so they shouldn't express their views? |

What the smart alecks posting in this thread seem not to understand, refined and processed white sugar is not the same thing as simple fruit sugar (fructose as found in fruits and vegetables). The OP of this thread has everything to do with refined sugar (mainly sucrose) and the fact that it is added to so many foods nowadays. Added sugar, whether something like high-fructose corn syrup, or sucrose in the form of white sugar, is bad for our health. Despite what the pathetically ignorant know-it-alls say, the fact is that refined sugar is bad for people because it damages our bodies' endocrine system, is a factor in dental decay, and it is implicated in the development of diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Sugar is a full-fledged toxicant. This is not 'junk' science or a current fad. It is scientific fact. Everybody should have a check-up each year, and this should include a complete blood work-up as well. If a person's blood sugar is too high, that person should talk to a dietician about getting on a low glycemic diet to lose weight and prevent the development of diabetes. People who have diabetes in their families are particularly prone to developing it themselves and should be especially careful about monitoring blood sugar levels. Oh, and BTW: Type 2 diabetes, which seems to be so prevalent in America today, is undeniably linked to lack of exercise, obesity, and a diet high in refined sugar and animal products.

I eat and drink what I choose according to the whim of the moment. And I have my check-up every year, where my physician says, "Whatever you're doing, keep doing it." I really do not need your rules and taboos. |

What makes you think most posters here don't already know most of this??? My husband inherited a disposition to diabetes. As his doctor, who was chief of internal medicine at a prestigious Atlanta hospital complex told him he had inherited "lousy" genes. His dad was a diabetic, too--from a rather distiguished family. Said father was a tennis player. How about corn syrup, oh would-be-guru?? As a teen I was a figure skater--try that on for size !!!. I could jump to the moon--a god-given ability one can't learn.I also walked miles. I'm 72 and a tad naughty. I got great genes. My dad was still doing jack-knife and gainor dives in his seventies. When I was 12 he began teaching me dives. Eat as you choose but we can do without the preaching. My life has been much more enchanting than the one you describe. My condo group had a Super Bowl party today at our clubhouse; I didn't go because I chose not to. Super Bowl Sunday here involves great indulgences and all will go to work tomorrow. Most in my condo group are retired but many will be out walking in the morning. We also have a community pool at the club. Before I moved to my condo we had a family in-ground pool with a diving board at our big home on a two-acre lot. Don't play one-up with me. I don't enjoy one-up but I rarely loose if someone starts it. Who are you to instruct us--an annoyance. Do they have decent posting boards in NZ? You do not know much about real life in the US--only what you read online. We are not a classless society and many with problems do not live well. I vote and donate $$$ to help. I also donate to the Clinton Foundation to help across the world? Do you ?? Can you do so financially? Many here, including my family have worked hard and are able to do so. In truth every paid position I've had has brought me joy................ you are not our guru............
