Israel defends its actions at the UN Human Rights Committee.

Israel defended its right to stop aid ships headed for the Gaza Strip during a hearing of the UN Human Rights Committee in Geneva on Wednesday, AFP reported.

The two-day committee hearing began on Tuesday, discussing whether Israel was violating obligations under the UN treaty on civil and political rights.

Last I read the ship was headed to egypt..

An Al-Jazeera reporter on board the aid ship said Israeli vessels were arrayed in a "wall" meant to prevent the ship from continuing toward Gaza.

Another "aid ship" defying the blockade.

Libyan aid ship continues toward Gaza

A Libyan-backed ship laden with humanitarian goods to Gaza -- in violation of an Israeli blockade -- was due to arrive at the Palestinian territory Wednesday morning, an organizer said.

Despite efforts by Israel to divert the ship, the ship will continue to its intended destination..." We confirm that the ship is definitely heading to Gaza...

The Israeli navy has approached the vessel and given the chief of mission and the ship's captain an ultimatum: Divert to the Egyptian port of al-Arish...

"But our answer will remain as always...We started sailing toward Gaza and Gaza is our target, and we hope that every party concerned will come to their senses and realize that this is a humanitarian, peaceful mission..."

"...This is not a propaganda stunt..."

And it wasn't an aid ship..

It was a passenger ship.. It had no aid on board.

It was ship of people who were more than ready to be martyred..

Such a shame  one woman took a baby with her..

No, it was a link of definitive proof that the Israelis shot into the flotilla from the heliocopter before  descending
.

It was an article .. not definitive proof.

While this isn't the exact article.. it was similar to this.

Turkish autopsy: Israeli soldiers shot activists from choppers

“Israel claims that the soldiers were attacked and that they were defending themselves. But the autopsy reports show that this is not true. Most of the bullets came from above and entered the skulls. It is obvious that the bullets came from the choppers,” he said.

Then there's these..

Turkish autopsies reveal aid activists shot from behind

Turkey released its autopsy results for the nine people killed aboard the Mavi Marmara, one of the ships that was part of the Gaza Aid Flotilla.

The results show five of the dead were shot in the back of the head or in the back, reported the Guardian. They were all shot at close range, and most were shot multiple times, with 30 bullets found in the bodies of the nine men.

If an important link is missing then whomever initially posted it should repost it. I do not recall removing anything like that. Someone else may have, but we three board hosts keep each other informed and again, I don't recall this. So somebody put whatever the link is back up.

Habesor

You are correct in your last post. The essence of prejudice is to make up your mind first and then selectively gather evidence to support that point of view.

But you know what Habesor?

I am sick of discussions about Israel that studiously ignore the elephant in the room. And that elephant is anti-Semitism or, as I prefer to call it, Jew hatred.

Are all critics of Israel Jew haters?

No.

Is mountain-man a Jew hater?

Insufficient data.

But when I find people who obsess about Israel - and I meet a few of those - what am I to think?

I recently attended a meeting here in Australia about the "humanitarian crisis in Gaza." Using publicly available data I demonstrated the following:

--Gazan life expectancy exceeded that of Australian Aborigines by many years

--Gazan infant mortality was a little lower than Aboriginal infant mortality

I then asked the following two question

--Where is the humanitarian crisis?

--Assuming there were two humanitarian crises which one were Australians in a position to solve?

Needless to say I was booed, heckled, called a "dirty Zionist" and threatened with violence. The convener said these were typical "Zionist diversionary tactics".

Ironically Gazan life expectancy is about the same as that of Turkey (not currently under Israeli siege) but Gazan infant mortality is well below the levels of those prevailing in Turkey. Perhaps those Turks aboard the MV Marmara should have tackled their own humanitariancrisis first.

For the benefit of Mountain_man Gazan life expectancy seems to be similar to that of African-Americans.

BTW Australia is a country that goes into hysterics about the arrival of a few boat people and they have the chutzpah to cast aspersions at those who defend themselves against rocket and mortar attacks.
