That was the first thing that occurred to me when I saw the new profiles format -- "Hmm...this is derived from MySpace."

But this space is unlike like MySpace in a number of ways. A lot of people won't put their pictures up. Most who don't will forego letting the world see them because they don't like the way they look, and a few will pass on that because it's too much trouble.

Also, there are quite a few posters here who don't want to reveal themselves, and when asked to will give as little substantive information about themselves as possible. And considering the kinds of things some of them write, I don't blame them.

Everybody on MySpace, on the other hand, is there to thrust himself or herself on the world, either out of loneliness, or to get laid, or for self-promotion. Beliefnet is a different kind of place altogether.

Guess youre right Catboxer..
But it still seems like it to me.
I've looked this way forever..so it's no biggie to put up a couple of pics...i'm stuck with me..and not only that..just the things we each individualy harp on week after week..not so secretive in the end as to who we are.

SGW:

We would all do a lot better here if we remembered a golden rule of politics:  "Where you stand depends on where you sit."

In other words, politics comes from life experiences.  It's rare to find a rich socialist or a poor libertarian.

I don't do pictures of myself but I think I added a picture that tells you more about me then my picture would.  It matters with the people who have put their pictures on Beliefnet or shared a bit of themselves.  But the ones who come here day after day just to be nasty or to put out their daily dose of propaganda or insults, they will never put their pictures up or let us know anything about them.  They are only interested in coming and disrespecting someone who doesn't agree with them(and before you say I am one of them,  read ALL my posts and how I answer to ALL the people who disagree with me and I'm sure you'll see I save my ascerbic tongue for those who deserve it).

I am editing to add that I myself really like the personal aspect of the pictures and the profile.  I do think with a few exceptions that it will allow us to get along better and hopefully dialogue more like walking people and less like walking opinions.

Actually, there's plenty of rich socialists and poor libertarians. I fall into one of those categories. There are plenty of left leaning types who are quite rich. Just look at many elected officials in the House and Senate.

Grouping people into classifications like that makes it harder to see the realities. People are more complex than their politics.

... and if you're saying you're poor, I'd say that makes you a poor constitutionalist.  (Monetarily -- you're certainly an expert, or "good", constitutionalist ...)  Not exactly the same thing as the libertarian.

(Agreed with the last sentence, though.)

You can say so. Doesn't mean I have to accept the label.

And you're right, silly of me to reject anyone's SELF-label.

I still suspect you're exceedingly rare, though ... :p

You got that right!
;)

But of course, all of us are exceedingly rare, now aren't we? There only one of each of us.
The ultimate minority is the individual.
