Namaste Prajna, I do not know the appropriate prayers/chants to all the deities. I know only about Devi. You can get the chants from the on line Ramakrishna Order book store: www.vedanta.com the following CD: Hymns from the SRI SRI Chandi. You can also read 'Devi Mahatmyam' translated by Swami Jagadiswarananda which contains the text of SRI SRI Chandi. Another book you can read is Hindu Gods and Goddesses A book that explains the symbology of the Deities is Hindu Symbology and Other Essays by Swami Swahananda 266 pages, paperback A book that gives an overview of Hinduism from the Advaita Vedanta perspective is Essentials of Hinduism: A Comprehensive Overview of the World's Oldest Religion Of course these books give only one perspective, the one that I follow. You have asked about Hindu scriptures. Hindus have thousands of scriptures as you very well know. The primary texts of Sanathana Dharma includes four Vedas, Sixteen I would suggest that you read abridged versions of Ramayana and Mahabharata. You might also read an abridged version of at least one Purana. A popular Purana is the Bhagawat Purana. Gangajal

I was raised in an English working class family, with no religion. In 1989, I read a booklet that someone had given to me. It advised the reader to chant the Hari Krishna Mantra. Someone I worked with suggested that I consider the reason why I was reciting this Mantra. I decided that I would recite the Mantra to find the love of God. Suffice to say that the experience of chanting this Mantra silently as I was falling asleep each night changed my life. Today, I practice Mantra Yoga under the guidance of a qualified Guru. Satya Sai Baba teaches that the key to all Vedic Mantras may be found in these 8 (Sanskrit) letters: "A, Ka, Cha, Ta, Tha, Pa, Ya, Sa." The Hari Krishna Mantra is a complete Dharma in just Three Words, which are all names of God: Hari, Rama, Krishna.

Thats not a problem. You might want to go to the page of The Hindu American Foundation to see what they say about homosexuality. Maya |
