Hi,
I Just finished reading The Jesus Papers which was given to me by a Catholic seminarian friend of mine.  It's all the author's educated guesses but he suggests that Jesus spent his "lost" (to us) 18 years with a philisophical group of Jews in Egypt called the Therapeutae.  This group was very mystical and regularly engaged in meditations and chanting to commune with a universal energy not unlike Buddhists do.  The author suggests that when Jesus says, "the kingdom of heaven is within and without you" he is implying something similar to what we call the mystic law and it's presence within and without us.   Too bad the Catholic church eliminated the Gnostics, Cathars and everything mystical about Jesus's teaching.  It would be interesting to see how Christianity developed had it not been so interfered with.
