Can someone clarify this for me, please? Is the CoE's / RCC's position "poppycock", "claptrap" or "bull$#!+" ? Inquiring minds want to know. The form and character of marriage has been changing through the centuries. King Solomon has 300 wives and 700 concubines. Judaism allowed polygamy until 1000 C.E., when it was abolished by Rabbi Gershon. African polygamous men can become Christian and retain their multiple wives (bought with the bride-price of cows and goats, then brutally circumcized). Life-long marriage in the 1st. world is being superceeded by serial-monogamy. The real threat to traditional marriage isn't SSM; it's divorce.

Dutch, I agree. What form of traditional marriage are these Arschloecher trying to defend? So many of the referendums being passed say "one man and one woman". If they were honest, the language should read, "one man and one woman at a time, and as many as you can afford in divorce court. Wouldn't it be a hoot if someone introduced a revised DOMA amendment that prohibits both divorce and gay marriage, in defense of traditional marriage, of course. How far do you think that will go? Not far, but it would demonstrate the hypocrisy of the tradionalists. If such a hypothetical law ever passed, it would quickly bring about the demise of "marriage" but a stronger civil unions system, and get the church out of the booming marriage business. Jim |

Jim, Their current proposed DOMA cuts out the areas where they will obviously fall short. You rightly call out the hypocrisy! Such traditionalism is anti-Christian [it's a works-righteousness schema that never measures up!]. |

I think that Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. He just did not know when to say when! BTW: I told my right wing friends that no fault divorce has done more harm to marriage than SSM possibly could.
For those who have faith, no explanation is neccessary.
