Jim, isn't it telling that "Dr.Luxemburg" is a pseudonym; the author is fearful of using his real monicker?   He might be the next one blown up, shot, stabbed or otherwise obliterated by a member of The Religion Of Peace.

As for "hur" meaning "white" in Aramaic --- the Koran was written in Arabic and it is considered the set-standard for the literary form of Arabic.   In any case, who would commit suicide for the promise of "white grapes" in the afterlife when they can be bought and enjoyed, for $1.79 per pound, in this mundane realm ?   Besides --- I much prefer Concord grapes.

Do I perceive "whitewash" afoot ?

I wonder if those celestial grapes are liable to grape-blight ?  Heaven may be choice real estate, but no-one claimed it to be without the occasional wrinkle.

As for the 72 virgins, after they've been --- ah, shall we say "enjoyed" --- the problem arises that they're no longer virgins.  Can they be traded in on newer models?

That would constitute no fault divorce.Wink

For those who have faith, no explanation is neccessary.
For those who have no faith, no explanation is possible.

Re-treaded virgins ?   In Muslim countries there is a process used for this.

Marian theology is a vast spectrum of speculation skating about  on a paucity of supportive evidence.  There are more Marian speculations than Heinz has pickles.

It is interesting to note that a columnist in the Guardian calls the CoE a church only fit for bigots and hypocites because they refuse to accept gays and women bishops.

Here in the States, TEC accepts both gays and women bishops, and we are called "irrelevant".

We play the wedding tune and they will not dance, we play the funeral dirge and they will not mourn.

Remember the story of King Canute who thought he was so omnipotent that he could command the tide to stay back ?

He got his Fruit-Of-The-Looms wet, big time.

Here's the contemporary equivalent.

N.B. --- the headline is somewhat inaccurate.  It isn't the priests who are opposed; it's the hierarchy.  I'll bet ca. 1/3rd of the RC priests would opt for SSM for themselves.  The other 2/3rd. would opt for  Straight marriage in a jiffy.

Enjoy.  Comments ever welcomed.  Kiss
