Is the Church going the way of the Bookstore (losing its appeal and significance)?  If so, what is replacing it?

I tried to visualize a church without attendance at the Sunday service and the only image that comes to my mind is that of the Flying Dutchman: a vessel without port.

If churches go the way of bookstore, shall we get our sacraments on-line from Amazon.com?

How about drive-in Communion?

Jupe,

I'm not too warm to that idea.  Guess I habor residual traditionalist sentiments.

How about drive-thru funerals?

Nino,

I've seen pictures of small churches turned into private homes and large churches condoized.  Arlo Guthrie has converted a de-consecrated TEC church somewhere in New England into a meeting center or meditation center.

Those big, old, dinosaurs are impossible to heat and prohibitively expensive to maintain, especially with diminishing congregations.  Things cost money, including religious institutions.  I would object if the churches were turned into gambling casinos, saloons or whorehouses.  As things stand, dioceses have limited funds.

I think the future of Church will be in small groups and in people's homes. similar to how the Bahá'í Faith does it.
