Orthodox Judaism resembles RCism:  only IT can validly ordain; females and Gays will never be ordained; only IT is the one-true-faith; all others are abominations.

No it doesn't.  Conservative Judaism (unlike Orthodox Judaism) is pragmatic.

Do they appoint rabbis to certain communities or are they like us when we interview candidates at an individual parish and call them?

AFAIK, the individual congregations call and interview the rabbis.  The synagogues  belong to larger "associations" but are run congregationally.

Thanks, Dutch, I was just hoping that in light of this development that a synagogue wouldn't get stuck with a teacher they deemed unfit to be one in the first place.
