At Bible Study last night, the vicar said John's portrayal of the crucifixion has two meanings. One is that God in human form showed us the extreme "he" will go to to be with us. The other is that the crucifixion is the birth of the church. John's description of, for example, the blood and water coming from Jesus's side represents the blood and water in human birth, ie. the church's birth. That makes John's interpretation quite different from the others. I'd be tempted to ask how much of the Bible is inspired and how much is men's attempts to manipulate others. |

We are saved by God's grace which we receive through faith. Good works, i.e. the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, are the fruition of a grace filled life. A good tree bears good fruit as its natural & healthy fructification. Let's not get the cart before the horse.

I would like to understand more about the Holy Spirit. Some of my reading and study seem to say that if I have the Holy Spirit, I no longer sin! The Holy Spirit keeps me from sinning. If that is true, then I do not have the Holy Spirit! |
