The Brits bet on everything. Interesting odds.

On a lighter note, here's Ship of Fools take on the ABC leaving:

"We are to be Christ's hands and feet and heart and mind and we cannot do that if we assume God's role of judgment. The judge's job is filled. God alone is judge! Those who would be Saviors of the Church and the people in it are also reminded that the Savior's job has been filled. Jesus Christ filled it once for all. "- Bishop Rodney Michel

Wonderful; much thanks.  I love British / Anglican humor.  A bit of cynicism goes a long way, rather like a dash of bitters in one's Schwepps Tonic Water.

Thanks for posting that delightful bit of nonsense, LOTS. Would that we North Americans could be equally relaxed about matters of hierarchical hoop-jumping. Simon Sarmiento is a clever lad.

"God is no captious sophister, eager to trip us up whenever we say amiss, but a courteous tutor, ready to amend what, in our weakness or our ignorance, we say ill, and to make the most of what we say aright."  from 'A Learned Discourse on Justification', a sermon by Richard Hooker (1554-1600).

It is entirely possible  that  AB York  will  not be the next ABC  nor Bishop Chartres  both are  not young men  maybe we  need some one in his  mid 50s. Sorry ECUSA listers  as of this time the C of E   does not allow  for   female   bishops, odd  since they ordain the ladies  for other positions.  And over all  does it matter to  say  ECUSA  or  Anglican Church of Canada  or of Australia  who is ABC. We  all go  our own  way .

Strange that a Church whose (titular) head is a woman does  not allow women bishops!

He may have stepped downing but he's not backing down.  Former ABC Rowan tells British Christians to grow up!

His comments would apply to those in the USA who claim that Christians are being persecuted (ex: the war on Christmas).  There are real examples of religious persecution, as we are now seeing in Egypt, not the faux persecution that many conservative imagine to justify their apocalytical point of view: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/16/rowan-williams-persecuted-british-christians_n_3768502.html?utm_hp_ref=religion
